‘Laparoscopy’ or ‘Diagnostic Laparoscopy’ is a specialized surgical technique that is also known as ‘Minimally Invasive Surgery’ or ‘Keyhole Surgery’. This advanced type of surgery is performed by using a smaller incision than you might think. In the past, this surgical technique was commonly performed to access the inside of the abdomen, like gall bladder surgery. But, over the last 10 years, the technique expanded to the advanced level where it is used to perform intestinal surgery. In this technique, an instrument called a laparoscope is used by surgeons. The laparoscope is a small tube-sized instrument with a high-intensity light and a high-resolution camera at the front which displays inside images of the pelvis or abdomen to the computer monitor.
